About the union: The United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (UBC) is one of North America’s largest building trades unions, with over a half-million members. With pride in their more than 135-year history, they lead the way in training, educating and representing the next generation of skilled construction professionals.
About the Local: Members of Local 9144 build structural frameworks for plaster and other materials, creating such wonders as theme park attractions and ornamental ceilings. While skilled lathers once worked with wooden strips called lath, they now mostly employ wire and metal mesh to create structures of various shapes. Members of Local 9144 provide a vital trade for UBC signatory contractors and their customers.
About the JATC: The Carpenters Training Committee for Northern California (CTCNC) is the educational organization that provides apprentice, journeymen, and related training services for members across the 46 northern California counties. The Hayward Training Center is a training facility that provides specific training for drywall/lathers, acoustical installers and modular installers. At the Hayward Training Center, apprentices learn the skills of their chosen trade from journeyman trades workers who have years of experience in their respective trades.
